“My dear Alia, wanted to drop you a note that you write beautifully and your blog is an inspiration. Even though I’m not Muslim, there are so many things you write about that are very relatable. Bless your heart and keep up the wonderful work.” – Trinetta Chong, Berkeley
“Alia, thank you – your writing speaks volumes beyond the cultural context. Your reflections are so inspirational! Particular ‘When I seek strength from that that is temporary, I am naively setting myself up for heartbreaking disappointment. Amazing!!!” – Cassy Raby, UK
“I’ve not had the blessing to know you for long, Alia, but after stalking, I mean, reading you from afar, I knew I had to get you on board my dream team when I was setting up The Shawl Label ‘s blog. There is just something magical about your words: the honesty, the vulnerability, the hope that you convey through your writing that always makes me pause, breathe and reflect. <3″ – Aida Azlin, Morocco
Dear Heartbroken One,
I know how it’s like to feel shattered. You feel lost and devastated. You feel dejected. You feel utterly and completely disappointed. Your eyes are so exhausted from constant crying. You suddenly remember where your heart is in your body. Why? Because that’s the part that hurts so much.
What if you could gain peace and serenity in your heart? What if I told you that you only need to refocus and everything will fall into place?
That’s why this blog was born. I would like to remind you, as regularly as I can, that the key to our success is our relationship with Allah. Allah is with you. When your heart shatters, it makes space for the light of Allah to enter you. Why depend on others when you can lean on the One who created everything? Your heart was created to be filled by only Him. I want to show you examples of Ordinarily Extraordinary people who can inspire you to keep going. When our lives are centred on only Him, nothing can ever bring us down. Like me, I know that there will be times when you feel like you have failed, like everything is just a waste. I want you to know that nothing is ever wasted. Every experience shapes you. Every experience makes you grow. Every experience is from Allah. And as long as your experiences nudge you towards Allah, I want us to have faith that everything that happens to us is ultimately good for us. If we only knew how beautifully Allah has planned our lives, we would cry out of gratefulness.
The most amazing part is that Allah is closer to you than your jugular vein. Allah is just waiting for you to draw nearer to Him.
“Allah says, ‘I am as my servant expects Me to be, and I am with him when he remembers me. If he thinks of Me, I think of him. If he mentions Me in company, I mention him in an even better company. When he comes closer to Me by a handspan, I come closer to him an arm’s length. If he draws closer to Me by an arm’s length, I draw closer by a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him. If my servant comes to Me walking, I go to him running.” (Al-Bukhari)
You just have to take that step.
